Finland Removals Health and Safety Policy
Finland Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our moving and relocation activities. As a professional removal company, we recognise that handling, transporting and delivering furniture and personal belongings involves specific health and safety risks that must be carefully managed at all times.
The purpose of this Health and Safety Policy is to set out our principles, responsibilities and working practices so that all moves, whether domestic or commercial, are carried out safely, efficiently and with minimal risk.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
We aim to prevent injury, ill health and property damage arising from our removal services by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing appropriate control measures. Our key objectives are to provide safe methods of work for lifting, loading, driving and delivering, to maintain safe and well-maintained vehicles and equipment, to ensure that all employees receive appropriate training, information and supervision, and to continuously improve our health and safety performance.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Finland Removals has overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. This includes establishing and maintaining safe working procedures for all removal activities, ensuring compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and industry standards, providing resources for suitable equipment, protective gear and training, reviewing risk assessments and updating control measures when operations or conditions change, and monitoring compliance with this policy and taking corrective action where required.
Managers and supervisors are expected to lead by example, promote a positive safety culture and ensure that all staff understand their responsibilities and follow agreed procedures during local and long-distance moves.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee of Finland Removals has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, as well as that of colleagues, customers and others who may be affected by their actions. Employees must follow all safety instructions, training and company procedures, use vehicles, tools and equipment only for their intended purpose and in a safe manner, wear any required personal protective equipment and report any defects immediately, report hazards, near-misses, accidents or unsafe conditions to management without delay, and cooperate with risk assessments, investigations and training programmes.
Failure to follow safety procedures may result in disciplinary action, as consistent behaviour is necessary to protect everyone involved in our moving operations.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Finland Removals undertakes regular risk assessments for typical removal tasks, including packing, lifting, carrying, loading, unloading and transportation. For each job, we consider factors such as access routes, stairs, lift use, parking and local traffic. On arrival at each property, our team assesses any site-specific hazards, such as restricted access, uneven surfaces, poor lighting or weather conditions, and adapts working methods accordingly. Where necessary, we use additional equipment or adjust staffing levels to ensure that heavy or awkward items can be handled safely.
Safe systems of work are implemented for repetitive and higher-risk activities, and all staff are briefed on these procedures as part of their induction and ongoing training.
Training and Competence
We provide appropriate health and safety training to all employees according to their role. This includes induction training covering general safety rules and company policies, manual handling training focusing on safe lifting techniques and use of handling aids, vehicle safety training for drivers, including loading, securing loads and defensive driving, and training on the correct use and pre-use checks of trolleys, ramps, lifting straps and other equipment.
Refresher training is provided periodically and when new equipment or methods are introduced. We aim to ensure that all personnel are competent to perform their tasks safely and to recognise when additional support or equipment is required.
Vehicles, Equipment and Maintenance
Finland Removals maintains all vehicles and equipment in safe working condition. Regular inspections and servicing are carried out in line with manufacturer guidance and legal requirements. Drivers are responsible for performing daily pre-use checks on vehicles and reporting any defects immediately. Moving equipment such as trolleys, dollies, ramps, straps and blankets is inspected regularly, and damaged or worn items are removed from service without delay.
Loads are planned and arranged so that weight is distributed safely, items are secured to prevent movement during transit and access to doors and emergency equipment is not obstructed.
Manual Handling and Personal Safety
Manual handling is a central part of removal work and presents a significant risk of strain and injury if not controlled. Our teams are trained to assess the weight, size and shape of items before moving them, to use team lifting techniques for heavy or bulky objects, to make full use of moving aids and lifting equipment whenever appropriate, and to plan routes in advance, removing trip hazards where possible.
Staff are encouraged to stop and seek assistance if they feel a task cannot be completed safely, and not to rush or take shortcuts that could lead to injury or damage.
Customer and Public Safety
During all moves, Finland Removals takes steps to protect customers, visitors and members of the public. This includes maintaining clear walkways and safe access around moving routes, placing warning signs or cones where appropriate, such as near vehicle loading areas, and taking care with doors, gates and communal areas so that others are not put at risk by moving activities.
We communicate clearly with customers about timing, access and any safety considerations at their property, and we are respectful of neighbouring properties and shared spaces.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near-misses must be reported to management as soon as possible. We record and investigate these events to identify root causes and implement improvements to prevent recurrence. First aid provisions are available in our vehicles and premises, and staff are briefed on how to respond in emergencies, including injury, fire, road traffic incidents or property damage.
Where incidents occur on a customer site or on the road, we cooperate with any official investigations and keep affected parties informed as appropriate.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Finland Removals is committed to continually improving its health and safety performance. We regularly review this policy, our risk assessments and our working practices to reflect changes in legislation, industry guidance and our own experiences. Feedback from employees and customers regarding safety matters is encouraged and valued.
This Health and Safety Policy applies to all operations of Finland Removals and is communicated to all staff. By working together and following these principles, we aim to ensure that every move is completed safely and professionally.
